about
Rome-based producer Lorenzo BITW is known for his percussive, polyglot collisions of UK funky, kuduro, afrobeats, and numerous other global club styles. Since emerging from the Classical Trax camp in the middle of the last decade, his colourful productions have been snapped up by such respected labels as Friends of Friends, Nervous Horizon, and Enchufada.
More recently, Lorenzo’s 2018 debut album Love Junction found him flexing his versatility alongside an all-star team of vocalists, while last year’s hard-edged yet playful Aurelia EP stands as the finest distillation of his talents yet.
While Lorenzo has proven himself more than capable of turning out blistering club edits, his most rewarding work demonstrates an effortless facility with melody as well as groove. Such is the case with his new single ‘Salto’. Mastered at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, it’s out 11th March on Ryan Hemsworth’s label Secret Songs and published in Italy with La Tempesta.
Much as the secret ingredient of any great Italian holiday is copious amounts of limoncello, here the extra zest comes courtesy of Drumcello - a musician in Lorenzo’s live show - who contributes percussion, bass, and West African balafon.
As a result, ‘Salto’ finds the pair travelling in a looser, more organic direction, with drums stumbling over blossoming synths, a wandering bass line, and clipped female vocals that hark back to Lorenzo’s two-year stint in Leeds at the height of post-dubstep. Welcoming and hypnotic, it feels tailor-made for balmy Mediterranan evenings.
PJam pays homage to the genres that inspire him by distilling and mixing their core elements. With a feature from friend Terror Danjah. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 16, 2017
